Cathaoir

Hello. Dia dhuit.

About me Fúm

I'm a Systems Administrator for the D. E. Shaw Group, where my role covers helpdesk operations, projects, on-site and off-site support, and plenty else besides. I'm also a technology enthusiast with a particular interest in infrastructure, networking, automation and self-hosting. I enjoy building things, taking them apart, and usually rebuilding them in a slightly more complicated way than they need to be.

Most of my time goes into my homelab: networking and DNS, containers, reverse proxies, monitoring and the services that inevitably accumulate. I care about making infrastructure reliable, reproducible and easy to understand.

Away from the screen, I like travelling, discovering new places and going to the pub with friends. I'm based in London, with close ties to Tyrone (Tír Eoghain), and I name most of my servers in Irish.

Projects Tionscadail

  • HomelabNetworking, virtualisation, containers and DNS, built on UniFi, Proxmox, Docker, Caddy and Technitium, plus a rather unreasonable number of containers.
  • Home automationHome Assistant with Zigbee and MQTT, aiming for a smarter house that isn't more annoying to live in.
  • Self-hosted servicesAuthentication, media, monitoring and documents, all running on my own infrastructure.

More projects will eventually make their way here.
